Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken, approx 4 lb
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Instructions:

  1. Pat the chicken completely dry with paper towels to ensure the skin crisps rather than steams.
  2. Rub olive oil evenly over the entire bird, including the cavity.
  3. Combine the kosher salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cracked black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create the seasoning rub.
  4. Coat the chicken thoroughly with the seasoning rub.
  5. Place the bird breast-side down in the air fryer basket.
  6. Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
  7. Flip the chicken to breast-side up and increase the heat to 380°F (193°C) for another 20-25 minutes.
  8. Use an instant-read meat thermometer to ensure the thickest part of the breast reaches 165°F (74°C).
  9. Transfer the chicken to a carving board and allow it to rest undisturbed for 15 minutes before slicing.
