Instructions:

  1. Slice strawberries into uniform 1/4-inch thick slices to ensure consistent maceration.
  2. In a large glass or stainless steel mixing bowl, combine the sliced berries, granulated sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and salt.
  3. Use a silicone spatula to gently fold the ingredients together, avoiding crushing the berries.
  4. Allow the mixture to sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes until the sugar has completely dissolved and a glossy, translucent red syrup has formed.
