Ingredients:

  • 1 large ripe avocado (approx. 200g)
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp chaat masala
  • 1/4 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped red onion
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped tomato (deseeded)
  • 1 small green chili, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 4 slices thick-cut sourdough or whole-grain bread
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil

Instructions:

  1. In a small mixing bowl, scoop out the avocado flesh and mash with a fork until it reaches a velvety consistency with a few small chunks. Stir in the lemon juice immediately to prevent oxidation.
  2. Fold in the chopped red onion, tomato, green chili, and cilantro. Sprinkle in the chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, salt, and black pepper, stirring until evenly distributed.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat with butter or use a toaster to toast the bread slices until mahogany-colored and crisp.
  4. While the toast is still hot, spread a generous amount of the spiced avocado mixture onto each slice.
  5. Finish with a light drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and optional pomegranate seeds or red chili flakes.
